Bali Kintamani Coffee

Expect a complex cup with notes of sweet tobacco, anise, and citrus zest all joined by dried mango and a candy-like sweetness.

This fantastic offering comes to us from a small group of farmers located on Bali’s Mt. Agung, which is both the highest point on the Island and an active volcano which saw high activity between 2017 and 2019. In the face of this however, these farmers continue to produce some of the most delicious coffees in the region.

Organized in a traditional Balinese Subak Abian, the farmers pool resources and knowledge, as well as helping one another with post-harvest processing and giving input on farm management. The tradition of Subak Abian dates back more than 1,000 years, and was developed by Hindu priests in accordance with the Tri Hita Karana– a philosophy focused on the harmonization of humans, the environment, and god. Natural processed coffees work perfectly in this system, as it reduces water consumption considerably, helping to combat water scarcity.
